Step into Benjamin Thomas Taylor's fantasy world

Benjamin Thomas Taylor is a contemporary British artist known for his bright and colourful surrealist inspired landscapes. Unlike many other artists, Taylor’s oeuvre showcases a range of different styles, from his eye-catching glitter series to his painting-by-number series. Studio 74 gallery exhibits the rich collection of Benjamin Thomas Taylor’s work, transporting the viewer into idyllic and fantastical scenes of the imagined natural world.

A Vocabulary of Ornaments, Original, 57" x 72"
Playing with negative space and cultural references, Taylor incorporates the naivety of painting-by-numbers and stencil cut-outs of text within his pieces. These mixed-media typographic paintings by Taylor encompass the essence of nostalgia, dreams and joy.

Joy is continued beyond the canvas and into the frame: Taylor experiments with the way the frame can add to the overall impression of his pieces. In his glitter series, the interior of the black frame is dusted in glitter that subtly catches the light. Comparatively, Taylor incorporates bright colour on the outside of his frame, as seen in his David Hockney’s Pool prints, and inside the frame which can surprise the viewer depending on their standing position. This unique style of framing highlights the sense of excess and play within his collection.

During the painting process of Meet Me in Matisse’s Garden, Benjamin explains “I often listen to Miles Davis and blues albums”, emulating the rhythms of the music within the expressive and fluid composition. The opulent gold background, swirling forms and iconic reference to the art of Matisse has proved to be extremely popular amongst clients and collectors.

Taylor's work has been exhibited in various galleries across the UK and internationally, and has been used in Album covers for renowned Music artists such as Paolo Nutini and Robbie Williams. His exhibitions often attract a diverse audience due to the accessible and engaging nature of his art.

Studio 74 showcases both Original artworks and Limited Edition prints in various sizes. Benjamin Thomas Taylor is also available for commissions; unique framing, background and the lettering colours can personalised to be perfect for you.
