Erosion - Original by Gank Pansuay

About Gank Pansuay

Born in 1983, Gank Pansuay studied at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang, one of the top universities in Bangkok, Thailand. It was here that he developed his own photorealist style, balanced with abstract elements used to evoke the inner emotions of his subjects. Gank’s large format portraits explore the theme of women in contemporary life, incorporating inspirations from artists as diverse as Gustave Klimpt and Jenny Saville.

Gank uses his skills in traditional Western realism to capture the features of his models, exploring and celebrating a diversity of ethnic groups and cultures across his portfolio. He combines this more refined detail with larger, expressive brushstrokes and bold colours, contrasting his featured figure with the surrounding negative space.

Pansuay creates a unique vision capturing an intense, clarity of his sitters' features whilst gradually applying loose, expressive brushstrokes picking out areas of pattern and contrasting blocks of colour.

Gank’s models are presented in moments of emotion; dramatic, thoughtful, or engaging. A particular signature for the artist is the interpretation of the model’s hair, which he plays with as a part of the overall theme of the piece. Often, the hair seems to transform into fire or lava which drips downward – at other times, his model’s coiffure appear in the form of clouds, raining colour down onto the model.

Pansuay is one of the leading emerging artist, who gaining critical acclaim on the international contemporary art scene with exhibitions in Moscow and New York.
