Ancient Eyes II
From his remote Northumberland studio, Neil Nelson creates powerful, atmospheric landscapes and seascapes that blur the line between realism and abstraction. Vast horizons, stormy skies, and icy voids emerge from thick layers of oil paint, carved, scraped, and rebuilt with raw energy.
Mixing in marble dust, beeswax, and sand, Neil adds earth itself to his canvases — a physical connection to the wild terrain he paints. His work channels both the elemental force of nature and the tactile thrill of paint.
Born in 1977 in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Neil studied fine art early, trained at Studio Escalier in France, and has since built a global following. He’s exhibited from London to Australia, featured in New York Arts and Daily Mail Weekend, and spoken at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
