Alastair Gibson | Carbon Art Collection
Alastair was born in 1962 near Johannesburg, South Africa. Exposed to and inspired by marine life during annual vacations to the family cottage on the Natal South Coast led Alastair to take sculpture classes. This early formal experience would influence how he saw and interpreted the detail and form of “interesting fish".
With an interest in motor racing influenced by his father and an education in balance-engineering, Alastair had a career of 22 years, 14 of which were in Formula One, 4 as lead mechanic for the Benetton F1 team and 10 as race team chief mechanic for the BAR and Honda Grand Prix Teams.
Drawing similarities between modern motorsport engineering and his love for the natural world, Alastair uses his acquired engineering skills and experience to show his passion for sculpture through his signature medium of carbon fibre. His anatomically correct pieces are detailed from used F1 parts purchased from the current Grand Prix teams.
Alastair’s work has been exhibited world wide and is being appreciated by a growing number of collectors and investors. Now in his fifteenth year as a full time artist, Alastair is being recognised as the fore-runner in high end engineered sculpture.
