Growing up surrounded by the ocean, I learned that water isn’t just something outside of us—it flows within us, shaping who we are.

When I create underwater, I feel part of something ancient. The bodies I photograph move between chaos and calm, love and loss, shadow and illumination—j ust as the sea itself does. Christy Lee Rogers, an award-winning photographer, creatively designs real-life models, shoots, and compositions to craft baroque-like artworks that harness the untamable force of water and create ethereal worlds where human figures drift in a ballet of fluid motion and raw emotion. Through her original nighttime underwater photography technique and the refraction of light, she transforms submerged bodies into otherworldly visions—supernatural explorations of physicality and spirit, timelessness and transformation, with angels and muses suspended between worlds.

A Sony Open Photographer of the Year, Rogers was commissioned by James Cameron and Disney to capture the stars of Avatar: The Way of Water—Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Kate Winslet—for a special project supporting The Nature Conservancy and ocean conservation. She also collaborated with Apple’s global Shot on iPhone campaign and created the cover of the Lavazza 2021 Calendar, bringing her contemporary underwater artistry to the worlds of fine art, technology, fashion, and design.
