Craig is one of the most popular artists on the international contemporary art scene. His work features in the private collections of many icons around the world and is extremely in demand particularly in the UK and US.

Each piece is created entirely of hand painted individuals 'creating the bigger picture'. If you look closely each person is doing a unique activity related to the bigger scene, and each work is timelessly surprising and intricate.

In some of his extremely rare originals, he even goes as far as detailing each item of clothing on the individuals. His cast of characters include family members, friends and models, giving his work a uniquely personal touch. Each piece contains a range of 400 to 1,800 people in it depending on the type of work it is, and he spends anywhere from 50 to 150 working hours on one painting.

Early Life and Education

Craig Alan was born in 1971 in San Bernardino, California. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for art and spent most of his childhood drawing and painting. He attended the University of Mobile in Alabama, where he studied Fine Arts and Graphic Design. It was during his time at university that he discovered his passion for creating portraits using small figures.

Inspiration and Process

Craig Alan's artwork is characterised by his use of tiny figures to create larger portraits. He carefully arranges these figures to form the shape and features of his subjects, resulting in a stunning and unique piece of art. His work often features famous icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Elvis Presley, as well as political figures and everyday people.

Craig Alan's inspiration for his artwork comes from his fascination with the human form and the idea of individuality within a larger society. He sees each tiny figure as a representation of an individual, coming together to create a larger image. His process involves sketching out the portrait first, then carefully placing and gluing each figure onto the canvas. The final result is a mesmerising and intricate piece of art that captures the essence of his subject.

Recognition and Achievements

Craig Alan's artwork has gained widespread recognition and has been featured in galleries and exhibitions around the world. He has also been commissioned to create pieces for high-profile clients, including celebrities and major corporations. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious "Best of Show" award at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami, Florida. Craig has had his works hanging in the White House and in Scope Miami.
