About the artist:
Michael Rumsby is a contemporary artist based in Saussignac, in the Southwest of France whose paintings depict scenes of floral and fruitful still life and seascapes. The compositions are dominated by vivid strokes of bright colour and bountiful pattern, with thickly applied paint in a technique of impasto.
With the beauty of the French Riviera holding a core place in Rumbsy’s heart, there is certainly a strong Impressionist influence visible within the style of his paintings. His pictures are based off memories and the fleeting scenes of daily life, he describes how “What I saw and how I remember it all becomes a blur - and what guides me is the sensorial experience of it all”: a nostalgic dreaminess which is conveyed in the final image.
Drawing from the captivating dualities of the Riviera, the scenes will transport you into a world of opulence and excess, while simultaneously appreciating the simplistic beauty of the natural landscape. The dancing of light and celebration of colour in a Rumsby painting will enhance your interiors in a joyous feast of the senses.
